Quote-"All men are liable to error; and most men are, in many points, by passion or interest, under temptation to it."
I agree with this quote because for several reasons. One reason being that it states that all people make mistakes. It is very true that everyone makes mistakes and it is almost true that people make them on purpose. I can relate because even though I know it is a mistake to cut class sometimes, I still do it.
I also agree with the quote because it applies to the government. For example, If the government people in third world countries know that being a tyrant is a bad idea because you automatically have a target on you, yet they still do it. Sooner or later the people are going to rebel and if it gets serious, the U.S will get involved. I strongly agree with this quote just because it applies to me, and many other people.

  2. “The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings capable of law, where there is no law, there is no freedom.”

I agree with this quote because this quote is a good meaning on how laws work. What John Locke is saying is that without law, there is no structure. Locke is saying that with law, law will help us advance as a society and people and keep everything in order. Locke is also saying law is not there to restrict people, law is there to keep control and allow freedom.

Overall, the meaning of this quote is that law is beneficial and without law everything will be too chaotic and you will not be able to have freedom. This quote is also saying that laws are only there to keep everything under control. Another meaning of the quote is states without any laws, there is no freedom. Lastly, I do agree with this quote because this quote explains that laws keep stability and control. This quote also states how places without laws will be chaotic and there will be no freedom.

  3. “The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings capable of law, where there is no law, there is no freedom.” John Locke

I agree with this quote for many reasons. One reason while I agree with this quote is law is there to keep control, and without law everything would be chaotic. This quote is saying that with law, we are able to have freedom. This quote is also saying that without law, everything would be chaotic and there would be no freedom. Another thing I agree with this quote is, the quote is saying that law is not to restrain. I agree with this because law keeps structure, and structure allows us to do the things we would like to do.

Overall, this quotes explains why it is good to have law. This quote explains how law creates order and freedom. This quote also states that law is not there to restrain, but to help. Another thing I agree with in Locke’s quote is that without law, there is no freedom. I agree with this because without law there is chaos, and with chaos, there is no control.

  4. Every man has a property in his own person. This nobody has a right to, but himself. - John Locke

I agree with this quote because every person own themselves. What he meant was that an individual owns himself, his body and his mind is his to control. Whether smoking, drinking, or doing drugs it's their choice. Choosing the right choice from a bad choice its all in their control. They can choose their own path because they own themselves and not by anyone.
He said that the supreme power (the legislative) cannot take from any man any part of his property without his own consent. Given that men have the natural right to promote their own well-being and that human labour creates real use value from the raw material of nature, those who most carefully expand their cause are also those who most fully realize their purpose as human beings. - AN

We are like chameleons, we take our hue and the color of our moral character, from those who are around us.
    - John Locke
I agree with this quote and I think that many people nowadays will also agree with this quote written by John Locke. This basically mean that people try to blend in with the society they are in so they don't feel left out and lonely. People nowadays tend to change their character only for the sake of blending in. Sometimes the company is good and sometimes it's bad, its dependent on you to choose which one you prefer.
For example, in the American Revolution many farmers disagreed to go with the people. Well some people may argue for different reasons. I think first one farmer would have said that we can't ruin our crops and then the other farmers to blend in stood with him so they can make a strong opposition. Even though the outcome was good and/or bad for them. Another example is that if you are in a school and the "cool" guys feel so good to you, you try to blend in. But sometimes blending in can cause danger. SO we should find people just like ourselves to develop and good community. In conclusion “One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.”

"All wealth is the product of labor" quoted by John Locke

I agree with this quote because it is true. Wealth don't just come to you by doing nothing you have to really do something to receive it. By receiving wealth it would not be easy. It would involve labor and maybe even overnight work.
For those who do labor and work really hard they will receive wealth. But for those who are unfortunate would not receive many. Overall if you want to be wealthy you would have to go through the process of labor. Those who don't would just end up with nothing.

  7. "Every man has a property in his own person. This nobody has a right to, but himself."
    -John Locke

I agree with this quote because it is talking about how no one should be allowed to control another man. You are in power of yourself and someone is in power of themselves and there shouldn’t be anyone using you like a puppet. The person is his own owner and no one should be in power of him. I believe that you are in control of your own life and giving someone control of your life is like losing to that person.
No one should be entitled to run someone’s life besides the person themselves. They’re the one who takes charge of their life and nobody else should. Everyone owns themselves and nobody else does it for them. There’s only one person taking the lead in one’s life and that is the person him/herself.

  8. "All wealth is the product of labor." ~John Locke.

I agree with John Locke about this quote because it really is a fact. Based off of how wealthy you are, it reflects on the amount of work you put in to your labors. For example, nowadays the way people get paid reflect on the amount of hard work they provide for the environment and company. Another example is a sanitation worker. To many people, they do a lot of physical labor which means they do get paid more than other jobs pay.

Next, in the past many people were slaves/peasants. They honestly did not get paid much because their job was to do whatever their owners said to do. All of their wealth mainly came from the food, water, and shelter they were provided if they needed it. Although they did a lot of hard physical labor, they really did not get paid much at all. Whilst compared to today, people get paid thousands of dollars a year, but in the past they did not have this much money. It really shows how much the world has evolved in ideas and ways of wealth.

  9. “Words are the money of fools” -Thomas Hobbs
In a way I think Hobbs is right because a lot of people can be fooled in many ways. But in the time of the Enlightenment people of authority had power to make laws. And make people follow those laws. Or else if they didn’t, they would have to deal with punishment. But he is right because people can be fooled especially at that time. And the way how Thomas Hobbs is described greedy and selfish. Since his idea is to have a powerful gov’t be in power.
Also I believe that this quote isn’t used during the time of the Enlightenment. It can be also used today. Especially in today’s world how there is many scam artist that scam people of their money, time, etc. By the way how those scam artist use their words to persuade you into buying their product. And then later fooling you by them making money and you being confused. Or sometimes those as seen on TV products people buy then later you see on the news a recall on that product. So this quote could be used during the time of the enlightenment. It can be used in today’s world.

  10. "A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else." - John Locke

This is a strange, yet interesting point made by John Locke that describes one of the ways of how to live a satisfying life. This statement is one that I agree with, regardless of its simplicity. A person who has an unstable mind may spend their days trying to find a way on how to correct their unstable mind. This constant search for a stable mind may bring a high amount of anxiety, which could conceivably worsen one's mental condition, and therefore lead one's mind to further instability and even insanity. A person with such a mental condition, as John Locke says, "Will be little the better for anything else."
Continuing with John Locke's quote, a person must also have a sound body, in addition to a sound mind, to live a satisfying life. This is true because even if a person has a sound mind, nothing can be achieved if their body isn't healthy. If anything, their body will fail first before the person even has a chance to express their mind and thoughts. As a result, if a person wants to have a life worth living for, they must have a healthy mind and body before they can do anything else.

  11. All mankind... being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions.

    - John locke

I agree with this quote that John locke wrote. For this quote has a meaning that all people are equal. And that people should treat people equally the way that they will treat themselves. Also something I thought is that the quote , was like saying if you hurt someone youll just be hurting one of your people. This quote is just saying you should treat people with respect to earn respect as return. People should take this to consideration that people or people and should be treated equally. Also its says in the quote possessions. For me I consider possessions such as valuables. Valuables also could be considered as pets , animals. To treat that with equality. Such as I mentioned at the beginning, that John locke stated that All of mankind should be treated equally.

Quote- “We must have constantly present in our minds the difference between independence and liberty. Liberty is a right of doing whatever the law permits, and if a citizen could do what they forbid he would no longer be possessed of liberty.”- Baron de Montesquieu

This quote means that we, as citizens of the country, should know what the difference is between independence and liberty. For example there is a difference between having the power to say or do things that is under the law and having the freedom to do things but taking advantage of that, by breaking the law. If a citizen is allowed the rights to refuse the law, then he/she does not having liberty, because the citizen is not doing something that is under the law. I think Montesquieu is implying that people abuse the law because they think have the freedom to do so.
I agree with this quote, because some people think that independence and liberty is the same thing but that’s not true. In the time period now, in America, citizens have the freedom of speech, act, and etc. so once they break the law they don’t possess liberty anymore since they did something that is not allowed. For example, if a United States citizen is guaranteed freedom of act, and he/she murders another person, that citizen broke the law so he/she doesn’t possess liberty. However he still has independence as a citizen of the country.

  13. "The end of law is, not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom."
    (John Locke)

A famous quote by John Locke is one which states, "The end of law is, not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom." I definitely agree with this statement since it pertains to what the Enlightenment was all about. It states how we are not supposed to rid or hold back our people, but to keep them and commence them with liberty. John Locke was a philosopher who supported all this and wanted natural rights to commence into society during this age of reason.
This time was where philosophers argued as to which government was the best. Locke wanted reason to be used for the world around them to be explained. He increased people's mind to sense individualism and natural rights. This quote does just that, and relates to these commoners who needed the belief of equal rights. It describes both sides really, Thomas Hobbes wanted to abolish and restrain people to where they stand. He desired a powerful government to maintain order within society. Locke on the other hand wanted a democracy and for people to explore and to have their own ideas. I most definitely agree with this quote since it is describing the Enlightenment as a whole, a purpose of government and a fight for rights.

Education begins the gentleman, but reading, good company, and reflection must finish him off.
    -John Locke

I agree with John Locke in this quote. I agree because education is the start of the "gentleman". Although, once he is done he must go out and seek other knowledge either from reading or from other people. That knowledge will them finish or complete the gentlemen.
I think this quote can also be referred to the present because kids go to school to start their education. This would be the start of the gentleman. But when they are finished with school (high school) that person must continue their search for knowledge. It can be by going to college and reading a textbook or by through others like a professor/teacher. This would finish or complete the gentlemen.

  15. "Educatoin begins the gentleman, but reading, good company and reflection mush finish him. " --- John Locke

This quote means education enrich a man with knowledge, manners, personality and perspective. However, reading provide a broader point of view, a diversity in human nature and seek for enlightenment from books. To have a good company can makes you complete. A good company can help you in many different way. Company can listen to you, aid you, understand you, and advice to you. Reflection is one of the necessary in our lives. Some times you have to think back for the things you've done.

I agree with this quote. Because I agree that education is not the only factor that conduct a gentlemen. I agree with the quote, reading habit can help to improve and develop human thoughts. Reading offers an environment that is different from the reality we live in, in the other environment, we can view things in different positions. A good company can walk along the path with you. Company can support you, and be there for you when you needed. Reflection is when you give a more insightful view about yourself, you have to rethink and recognize yourself in order to develop and promote.

  16. John Locke
"All mankind... being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions."

I agree with John Locke. Every person should have a life with freedom and their own natural rights. If everyone treated each other with no respect, fights would fall out and troubles would arise. But if everyone was equal and independent, rebellions would not happen and people would be able have happiness.

During the Enlightenment, the government had power to violate individual rights. They did that by giving out taxes to the citizens. The government treated the citizens as if they were nothing only to help themselves. That caused rebellion and violence to occur. People should all be equal because if the government violates individual rights, people may rebel.

  17. "Our incomes are like our shoes; if too small, they gall and pinch us; but if too large, they cause us to stumble and to trip.”

I agree because John Locke is stating that if an income is too small it hurts us but if it's too large it causes us to fall. When you have too little income it makes us want to have more because that particular amount of income make us unable to fulfill our needs and desires. Although, when you have a large amount of income it makes us fall and go blind because we don't value the money and that is what makes us trip. John Locke teaches us that we should know how to value our money.
He tells us that having little income motivates us to do more so that it stops hurting us. And to those who have a large amount of income he states that they should make their decisions wisely. He states the ones with higher incomes are the ones to trip and stumble, which is true. Even today some of the richest people with the highest incomes cause themselves to stumble. Why? Because they don't make their decisions wisely. Either income will cause you to hurt or fall.

  18. “All wealth is the product of labor” -John Locke

“All wealth is the product of the labor.” John Locke is telling us that everything achieved in life is through hard work. Every individual who is successful at this point worked hard in order to become successful to the point in which they are today. Nothing comes easy. Wealth only comes to the receiver after the receiver puts in the work and the effort.
Individuals who work hard for what they vision can often see the “product of their labor.” Wealth will only be acquired by those who work their ideas into action. Those who sit around thinking this and that often do not see their ideas become a reality. Only those who put forth the effort will be successful.

  19. Fashion for the most part is nothing but the ostentation of riches. - John locke

I agree to this because when you wear fancy clothes, you are just showing other people how rich you are. Instead of actually enjoying the cloth you wear. For example, girls and boys in high school these days they just wear fancy cloth to show people how rich they are and how fresh they are. i personally likes to show off a bit too so im guessing everyone is into fashion for the showoff.
I think john locke says this because in the old times, king and queen wears fancy cloth to show how rich they are. I think john locke is mad at the king and queens because they would've used the money to help the poor people. Instead all they care is there own money and jewelry and there own clothes, but the forgot about the peasants that live in there kingdom.i would of imagine John locke him self would wear ugly clothing for saying this quote

Quote God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.

I think this quote means that god has given us life and we should not take it by our self or let anyone take it. We should protect our right. The right that god gave us. No man should take that right away from us.

I believe the second part is saying that we got a chance to live and we should use this opportunity and make our life better. It means we should study hard and make this life better. We should live this life to the fullest.this means that you only live once.

  21. “Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours." By John Locke.

According to this quote, John Locke is saying that reading is not enough, we should understand and over-think of what we read. When we are reading, we are just filling our heads with other people's information. To transfer that to our own wisdom, we should dig deeper and know the meaning of what we're reading. I agree with what John Lock's saying, because understanding is the main thing we need in our society.
Often times, as a student, we read because we are required to. We don't really understand the author's intention of writing a certain sentence. It's important that we do, because it helps us to identify the main idea and important details. Understanding is important not only in schools, but also in our futures.

    Thomas Hobbes

“Words are the money of fools,” said by Thomas Hobbes. During the Enlightenment there were two types of men, the ones who had theories and ideas that opposed the church and others like Thomas Hobbes, a man who supported the church and the divine power given to the king spoke out against the “insane” theories of others. His quote “Words are the money of fools,” say that people who use the power of the press to gain authority and not true authority has nothing to the rule of divine. He also makes another point that scientific reasoning is foolish. Theories made about weak or false divine power oppose the authority of the greater which maintain order.

I disagree with Thomas Hobbes and his quote, “words are the money of fools” because; words are more likely to let a person free them self from oppression, enabling them to have an act of power and find sense among-st themselves. Thomas Hobbes compares words to money because he believes that there is only one divine power and that’s the power given to the wealthy and well- off. Furthermore, I think Thomas Hobbes’s quote is more of an excuse to escape from reality and a choice not to explore truth and find true scientific reasoning like others of his time. Finally, I believe Thomas Hobbes is a man of old-tradition and custom, where he disregards any insight in changing them.

  23. John Locke once said “New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reason but because they are not common.” This quote explains how when someone come up with new ideas they are usually questioned. Also the quote also explain how when new ideas are presented people usually don't support these ideas because they are usually different. This is usually because people are to scared to stand up for new ideas. They thought that if they stood up for new ideas they would've be punished.
I agree with this quote because during the times of the Enlightenment or even present day. People during the Enlightenment did not want to go against the the king. They thought that if they did this that they would be going against God. So therefore they did nothing. Others were so accustomed to how things were they did not want to support them.

  24. All the wealth is the product of the labor.
    -John Locke
I agree with this quote by John Locke. The society was basically created by the worker, the products they made support the society to run and be exist. what we have and what we using everyday was given by those workers, worker are the basic of a society. The society and our life was mostly depend on those worker, they determine the good or the bad.In other word, the worker play the biggest role in the society.
However, the wealth is not in the hand of those worker. It is control in certain few people who was on the top of the society, the worker become the middle or the bottom. This affect the worker and their life in many way,We can see many event in modern day about workers go on strike for reasons like taxes too high and the working hour was too long. And because of those reason and effect, cause the problem of economies and politics like price went up.

  25. "It is one thing to show a man that he is in error, and another to put him in possession of truth." –John Locke

This British philosopher John Locke was known especially as Mr. Enlightenment for his theories of knowledge and his theory on personal identity. This quote by him shows exactly that. This quote shows his view on human understanding. In the beginning Locke disagreed with Descartes’ theory that knowledge is a clear idea to us. When Locke really thought it was the awareness concerning the agreeing or disagreeing of the ideas that we had. Locke’s perspective of “ideas” was not only mental objects but also those mental objects being portrayed as non-mental ones. He believed that knowledge was a whole other world outside of our minds.

I agree with this quote because with the knowledge that lets us think external of our minds, it can be used on other people. Showing a person is wrong is completely different than showing them the truth. For example, teachers not only show us what is wrong but they show us a completely different perspective on things that prove something is wrong. They can show us why a math problem is wrong and they can show us the truth behind why it is wrong. And that is why I agree with this quote because the truth and the fault are two different things. John Locke is saying that men should not be forced to be under any rule. They should be free from any authority figure. The only law they should have in their life is the law of nature. In my opinion, I disagree with this statement.
Sometimes it is good to have an authority figure in your life. Imagine a life without being under a rule. Rules are made to keep things in order and to bring peace, whether its from a monarchy or democracy. Without this, it can lead to complete chaos. People are going to do whatever they want because there wont be any punishment involved.

I highly agree with this quote from John Locke. I believe education always starts us off being respectful, a good person, & having common sense. Without education we would be people with a huge brain but no use of it, and that's a big waste of brain. We all need a starting point, and that's where education comes in.

However, this could all change in minutes. If you have low self esteem, not believing in yourself, & bad influences can ruin your future. Especially your education future. You must have the right elements in your daily life to be successful. Have no worries about anything, & continue your education. Having the right elements will finish you. (In a good way.) - G.R
